  1. Gender and Change

    - Cultural Status: Depends on the type of society, for example, in China, women are seen as inferior to men. In America, there are many groups advocating for gender equality. Traditional perception is that the man is the one take goes out to make the money while to female stays home , has kids and takes care of the household . Even though women work, they might have to go home and maintain the household.
    - Education: Some families are still following the traditional views that men are better.
    - Health: Mental health of women are worse than men , premade pathways/expectations of females to be a certain role : children , housewife
    - Employment: No maternity leave for men , women leaving will decrease productivity . Females are unpredictable (time of the month) . Better able to do the job
    - Life expectancy :
    - Migration:
    - Legal Rights:
    - Land Tenure

    Gender Equality and Smart Economics
    - removing women from work is removing 50% of the countries workforce and productivity
    - places with high poverty has low gender equality this is a negative relationship
    - this makes economic sense
    - UN giving a lot of attention to health and education
    - they have not focused on economic , cultural , legal status
    - women are getting healthier and better educated
    - still not able to get jobs (gender inequality is still around)
    - the gap is closing now
    - Labor , credit land , agricultural (SMART ECONOMICS)
    - women are not allowed to own land

    Land
    - women are at a disadvantage
    - land is held by men
    - world bank has reissued titles in North Vietnam so both husband and wife own the land
    - credit can be received
    - start own business
    - in the event of divorce , both get equal share of net worth and land
    - ^ insurance
    - 35,000 new land titles were distributed

    Labor:
    - if women work , the families total income would ^25%
    - in urban Mexico , women make 30% less than men
    - 1950’s UK : women would be paid 50% of the wage
    - women seen as rivals to men
    - gender equality seal given to companies who have reached the criteria
    - Egypt has asked for this project to be introduced to them

    Credit:
    - increased loan from 15,000 to 50,000 to women
    - Bangladesh , height of children increase by 12%
    - Brazil 11%
    - Kenya 17%
    - now reaching full growth potential because more money means more nutrition
    - children are getting less malnutrition

    Agricultural:
    - women provide 80% of agricultural in Africa
    - women equal access to agricultural resources
    - Kenya : 25% ^ in yield
    - Burkina Faso: 20% ^ in yield

    Pros of Gender Equality:

    - makes economic sense
    - ethically correct
    - makes family welfare better
    - reduces poverty

  2. Cultural Status:

    Education
In many countries the male is given a better education because they are usually the ones who go out and get the jobs, and look after their family.
    Health
Womens health is usually worse than males as they are seen as less important as men because the men go out to work, so therefore apparently must get better health care.
    Employment
In many countries(most) the idea that the male is the one going out working and the female is the one staying home
In the uk the average wage ratio is 1 : 0.65 Male is more efficient than females?------maybe due to higher education(
    Women are more neurotic,
Men have higher status in society
Females are more sensible(?) and allows the extra income to be used in more efficient ways(health care, food, etc)

for the same job: female get 15-30% less than the male
    gender equality----24% increase in economy

High level of poverty, gender equality goes down. Therefore it make economic sense which will benefit the whole of society. Legal status, cultural status = glass ceiling

  3. Poverty and Gender
There is a link between Poverty and Gender
As the poverty lowers the gender equality increased

    Equality and Smart Economics
Removing women from work is removing 50% of the countries workforce and productivity
High poverty areas try to focus education on males rather than females
In todays modern world more women are getting better education and health services
There is still the gender inequality in certain jobs
Women are better at managing businesses than men, Men waste money on things while women will use the money more wisely

    Gender and Change
Mental health differs between men and women
Education, some people still have cultural beliefs on education, men have priority
Eldest sibling may have priority of education unless they are a girl
Maternity leaves given for women, not needed for men

    Labor
Women may be given a lower wage than men
Rights for women are better today
    Most jobs have equal payment
1950 UK – Women were paid 50% less than men
Males like to be able to dominate the females – Rivalry

  4. There tends to be a correlation between low poverty and higher gender equality
(although it is arguable that this is due to the fact that developed countries tend to start straying away from religious and cultural beliefs which are often the core cause of female repression)

These inequalties restrics women`s oppertunity to make their own income. It also demolishes house hold incomes(eg 25 in Eygpt) and economic activity. In addition ignoring half of the workforce in the world is simply not intelligent.
This is why the world bank believes that Gender equality is also smart economics and thus started the World Bank`s gender equality plan

    E.g
    In rural vietnam
most land titles are given to men
    Can stop womens economic independece

This is why space for two names for land ownership has been made allowing the women to borow money and use the land for profit, thus increasing economic activity.

    Mexico
Gender equality Seal in work place has allowed one female to rise her standerd of living by being able to afford a house. Another economic contribution.

Females income can also directly effect the quality of their children`s lives. Since some fathers are not willing to give more consideratly to their chldrens well being, unlike a mother. This tendency allows cchildren to reach better health, which can also be seen by how close tall they are gettin; how close they are getting to their genetic maximum hieght
    e.g.
    Mother`s impact of children`s height
    Bangladesh 12%
    Brazil 11%
    Kenya 17%

"It is not only the right thing to do but also the smart thing to do"
